What is Kawaii? First off it rhymes with Hawaii. The word literally means cute or adorable in Japanese. It has come to describe a whole culture. We love kawaii culture. It is fun. It is charming. And sometimes a little silly. But never serious.

We look around us and see a world becoming much too serious — so many reasons to be sad.

At The Kawaii Shop we offer light!

We started The Kawaii Shop in 2020 — just after the pandemic (much too serious!). We began with a rented gondola in a mall and sold hand-painted planters and crafts. Our playful and whimsical offerings made us — and many others — smile! We developed a following and grew steadily. Now we have a beautiful new store where you can come and find a reason to smile!
